Introducing
Equestrian Tai Chi for
Therapeutic Riding Instructors
An online course for Therapeutic Riding Instructors to learn Equestrian Tai Chi, and to learn how to teach it to their clients.

1. You teach people with neurological conditions
Equestrian Tai Chi works on the nervous system and it's beneficial for many neurological conditions including Autism.
2. You teach people with learning disabilities
This course has different levels for learning Equestrian Tai Chi and you will learn how to adapt your teaching to people with different levels of ability. As people learn more, then you can teach them more.
3. You have students who are keen learners and look forward to building on their knowledge each week.
Equestrian Tai Chi provides an excellent way for therapeutic students to set and achieve goals while increasing their strength, flexibility and balance. Each week they can learn new movements in the sequence and consolidate their skill.
4. You have people who you know would be interested in Equestrian Tai Chi.
People are becoming more and more aware of the benefits of therapeutic practices now. Equestrian Tai Chi is ideal for horses lovers who are health conscious and looking for a holistic practice to share with the horse.
5. You have older riders who'd enjoy a weekly class with a mind body health focus that complements riding.
Older riders carry such wisdom and should be encouraged to still partake in the horse world. Equestrian Tai Chi is a wonderful way for them to incorporate a Chi practice into their lives. Many older people suffer from stress, high blood pressure, isolation and insomnia. Riders who have adored horses all their lives or who even those who have begun riding more recently benefit from the health giving effects of Tai Chi combined with the therapeutic presence of the horse.
6. You have special interest groups such as people recovering from cancer.
Tai Chi lowers blood pressure, reduce stress, eases pain and stiffness and has been proven to help relieve insomnia symptoms in breast cancer survivors. A study led by Dr. Michael Irwin, a professor of psychiatry and director of the Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology at UCLA’s Semel Institute, found tai chi works better than medication for treatment for insomnia. He says it significantly improves insomnia, fatigue and depression.
7. Equestrian Tai Chi is an activity that benefits riders with disabilities.
Equestrian Tai Chi, works on physical, emotional, mental and energetic levels. As well as stretching and lengthening muscles, other benefits include include improved balance, posture, coordination, concentration and flexibility. It improves balance and motion coordination with focussed attention. Equestrian Tai Chi increases confidence and improves one's general Well Being
8. It allows you to provide a safe and health giving activity for your clients that is as much for the horse as it is the rider, that will deepen the connection between them.
Equestrian Tai Chi compliments riding, and it shares common principles with it, major ones being that correct posture and a relaxed bodies are essential components. When riders practice Equestrian Tai Chi, they engage their energy bodies. This makes it easier for them and their horse to connect energetically. A deeper bond is made between the horse and rider as a unified energy field is formed between them. This way the rider benefits more from the therapeutic energy of the horse and it greatly enhances the time the rider spends with the horse.
Here is what you will learn in the course.
This course is a learning-teaching course.
The course has three core modules, each 4 weeks long. Each module includes Equestrian Tai Chi exercises for you to learn, and a Teaching Section with Weekly Lesson Plans for you to follow while teaching your clients.
In the course you will learn the First part of The Equestrian Tai Chi Form and Equestrian Chi Gung Exercises. The Equestrian Tai Chi Form is a sequence of movements performed in a flowing manner, while the Equestrian Chi Gung Exercises are single movements, that are repeated multiple times, they are generally symmetrical and are easy to learn.
How to become a Certified Therapeutic Equestrian Tai Chi Instructor
To be eligible for certification you will need to send videos of yourself practicing Equestrian Tai Chi on horseback. Six videos should be sent in all, ideally spaced about two weeks apart.
As well as this, each week for 12 Weeks, you will be given a new alignment or internal connection or energy flow to learn and will be asked to write a short log of your practice in the Course Forum 3 times each week, where you will receive feedback and support.
It would take about an hour's study, four - five times a week to do the work in the course.
This would include time spent learning the exercises and practicing on horseback and writing about your practice!
There is also a short open book paper to complete. This is to help you and to ensure you have understood the main important points. You will be given the information on this, and asked to write it in your own words!
If at the end of your videos series, you demonstrate that you have practiced sufficiently to have enough skill and a good understanding of Equestrian Tai Chi, you will be Certified as a Therapeutic Equestrian Tai Chi Instructor!
This certificate will remain valid for two years.
To keep your certification up to date, you will be required to attend live webinars a number of times a year, for which there will be a small fee. This will also keep your page active on the Equestrian Tai Chi Website, where it can be found on search engines. It will also maintain your access to the course after the year is up.
You will also be required to submit a video of yourself practicing every two years!
Here's what you'll learn as you progress through the Modules –
Module 1
As well as the Equestrian Chi Gung and Equestrian Tai Chi Exercises, you will learn how to feel you Chi, You will learn about your internal alignments that make it possible for your Chi to flow smoothly in your body in a way that enhances the health of your internal organs.
As well as learning the Equestrian Chi exercises yourself, you will learn how to teach them to clients who might find the movements difficult to perform.
There are also short lessons about the Theory, History and Philosophy of Tai Chi to give you an understanding of where this practice comes from!
You are given 4 suggested Lesson Plans.

Carol Weis is a Certified Equestrian Tai Chi Instructor
Hi! My name is Carol Weis, and I live on a farm in Chapel Hill, TN, about 45 minutes south of Nashville.
I did not grow up owning a horse, but fell in love with them by riding the ponies that my grandfather had. I knew one day I would have my own farm and horses. I have been a horse owner for about 25 years. During that time I have cared for my own horses as well as boarded some, bred and raised some babies, done training with my horses, and shown in ranch type classes, extreme trail challenges, and cutting.
I discovered Equestrian Tai Chi as I was developing my Equine Assisted Learning program. I have a program called Westward Journey where we use the incredible healing of horses to help people learn more about themselves and help them heal. One of our programs is for breast cancer survivors. I just knew that I had to be able to add some Equestrian Tai Chi to that program, so I began the instructor certification.
I am so excited to have completed the certification and I am looking forward to helping people learn to deepen their connection with their horse and enhance their mind, body, and spirit.I love the Equestrian Tai Chi exercises! They are so easy to learn and so calming to rider and horse.
When I ran my pilot program for breast cancer survivors, we incorporated some Equestrian Chi Gung exercises. These were easy for the girls to learn, so there was no stressing out about not being able to do them correctly. They seem very simple, but the results are amazing!
Often when my friends and I are riding around my property, we will stop at various places along the trail and do some of the Equestrian Tai Chi exercises. It helps the horses remain focused and calm as we ride.

Claire Oestreich is a Certified Therapeutic Equestrian Tai Chi Instructor
Hi! My name is Claire Oestreich, and I'm from Southeastern Pennsylvania. I am a life-long lover of horses and happy to be around them in whatever way was possible.
I started my journey of learning with the Delaware County 4-H horse club, where I began riding at the age of 10. I quickly found that I wanted my career path to involve horses, and I took many opportunities in my college years at Lake Erie College to pursue this dream, such as riding in both English and Western disciplines. In my time there, I found that my true passion was in teaching therapeutic riding.
I became a Registered Level PATH Instructor in 2012, now transitioned to the CTRI, and soon after began my career with Special Equestrians in Warrington, PA. With the plan of expanding our center's programs, I came across Equestrian Tai-Chi. With my background in martial arts (over 20 years of training in Tae Kwon Do), I was eager to participate in something that combined my two passions. As I went through my training and practice, I was so pleased to find that the horses were enjoying the sessions as much as I was!
I am excited to continue this journey of learning with the horses, and I look forward to working with those who are interested in joining me!
I thoroughly enjoyed my training for Equestrian Tai-Chi with Jenny! She was able to answer all of my questions easily and in a timely fashion. She was very hands on throughout the course, something that I hadn't been expecting in the online format. All of the material was well paced and walked me through the steps to feeling comfortable and confident in myself and in my practice of tai-chi, which I had no previous experience in! Looking forward to continuing my training with Jenny in the near future!

Kristen Gould is a Certified Therapeutic Equestrian Tai Chi Instructor
Having completed Equestrian Tai Chi course for Therapeutic riding Instructors, I must say how impressed and satisfied I was with the experience in so many ways. The depth of the course material was amazing. Jenny Pim, the founder and creator of Equestrian Tai Chi has shared a tremendous amount of knowledge into an easy to follow curriculum with emphasis on practice while mounted. The course explores the principles of Equestrian Tai Chi such as posture, alignment, breathing, and energy anatomy. The support that a student receives from Jenny, through email and video conferencing was wonderful. The course is designed to take place over a period of three months but because of other commitments I had concurrently, Jenny was very forgiving to allow me ample time to complete the course. The Equestrian Tai Chi course for Therapeutic Riding Instructors provides an abundant amount of material and information for a riding instructor or riding enthusiast to share with students or use as a daily practice to enhance connection and harmony with the horse.
I hold certifications through PATH International in Adaptive Riding, Interactive Vaulting and as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. I also hold a Vaulting Coach Level 3 certification from the Certified Horsemanship Association.

Sinead Kehoe is a Certified Therapeutic Equestrian Tai Chi Instructor
Hello My name is Sinéad Kehoe from Wexford, Ireland. I joined Equestrian Tai Chi at the end of March 2021 with Jenny Pim, creator of this amazing course Equestrian Tai Chi. Jenny is so friendly, kind hearted and supportive all the way through the course and no question is left unanswered, I can definitely say Jenny really wants you to succeed in this course.
I found the course material very informative and interesting, straight to the point, easily understood and the videos are very well presented by Jenny and her beautiful steed.
I have a great love for horses and I am very lucky to be volunteering and training to be a therapeutic riding coach at Happy Trails Therapeutic Riding School at Davidstown, Wexford. I work with children and adults with special needs and I have witnessed first hand the benefits of horse therapy and what joy it gives our clients on a day to day basis and helps them survive their many obstacles that enter their path on a daily basis.
Each of the therapeutic riding horses have been rescued and specially trained by Olive (Owner) and I have introduced many of these amazing horses to Equestrian Tai Chi under the guidance and advice of Jenny and Olive. My horse Rein started my Equestrian Tai Chi journey with me and she loved every minute of it and even had a nap during our practice sessions.
I could feel Rein's energy grow with mine as we explored our practice sessions as well as the assignments set by Jenny it was a great experience and I have enjoyed exploring the Equestrian Tai Chi and I have to say it’s totally beneficial for both horse and rider.
I introduced Equestrian Tai Chi to a little girl while she was participating in her weekly therapeutic riding session with Olive and Jody, she loved doing the hand movements and her bond with Ashley the therapeutic horse grew each week a beautiful trusting relationship was made it was wonderful to see.
We got feedback from the parents that their daughter is doing much better in school and sleeping better at night time which is a huge improvement for them all, great news.
I also introduced Equestrian Tai Chi to my colleague Jody who had recently rescued a horse called Levi, a beautiful horse with a very sad story.
Levi did not trust humans through no fault of his own, his behaviour was a learnt survival skill in his previous home.
Levi received a lot of support from Jody and through hard work and patience Levi eventually started to trust the human hand once more.
Levi found the whole process of tacking up, standing beside the mount block, human contact and taking instructions quite a chore and he didn’t always respond accordingly, he showed his naughty side a few times.
We introduced Levi to Equestrian Tai Chi, he was very curious at first, his ears moved forward and back, he move around a bit and swished his tail, a pretty good reaction to an unknown process.
Jody continued to work with Levi using the Equestrian Tai Chi movements and Levi’s behaviour started to change, his overall energy was very positive, his eyes and body grew more relaxed, he became more interested in his work and most of all he learned to trust and create a new friendship with Jody willingly and without fear.
Jody and Levi became more relaxed with each other over time which is easily seen throughout their practice sessions.
Jody told me how our sessions have helped him too, his energy is more positive and he is enjoying their riding sessions more and more as time goes by, which is brilliant to hear.
To see how far Jody and Levi has come in such a short time is really remarkable.
I shared all the information with Jenny and she reviewed, guided me and made brilliant suggestions to encourage and support my ventures through Equestrian Tai Chi. Jenny is very knowledgeable, supportive and an amazing tutor and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in this wonderful course and I have throughly enjoyed every minute of this course from start to finish.
I would highly recommend Jenny Pim and Equestrian Tai Chi to all riders, horses, instructors and horse owners, it is just magical how our energy and the horses energy entwine together to produce such wonderful results and the benefits for both human and horse are just amazing. Thank you Jenny for the wonderful journey through Equestrian Tai Chi.
